In Mortal Kombat, Fatalities aren’t the only way to conclude a fight with a “FINISH HIM.” Throughout the series, other alternative finishers like Friendships, Babalities, Animalities have been present. Although these options aren’t in Mortal Kombat 1, Brutalities were introduced right from the beginning of the game.
How to do brutalities in MK1
Each Brutality requires unique combinations of inputs, usually tied to special abilities and unique moves. To view the necessary inputs for a Brutality, navigate to the “Move List” menu, and go to the “Finishers” tab.
But that’s not all. To perform a Brutality in MK1, players must hold the keys after executing the final blow of the match—pay attention to the opponent’s health and trigger a Brutality only when certain it will reduce it to 0.
For instance, to execute the common Brutality “The Klassic,” players need to perform an uppercut on their opponent (D2), then maintain the uppercut inputs during the move without releasing them. The background swiftly darkens as the player rapidly decapitates the opponent’s head in slow-motion, followed by the end-match text “BRUTALITY.”
Unique Brutalities of Mortal Kombat 1 Characters
All the characters in Mortal Kombat 1 has their own specific Brutalities. For instance, Scorpion has a Brutality called “Toasty,” where he burns his opponent until only the skeleton remains. Similarly, the character Sub-Zero has a Brutality named “Ice Shatter,” freezing his adversary and then shattering them into a thousand pieces.
How to use brutality in mortal kombat 1
Brutalities have a significant impact on the strategy in Mortal Kombat 1. By requiring players to hold down keys after the final blow, they must carefully monitor the opponent’s health and choose their finishing move wisely, as only specific attacks allow for Brutality.
The Brutalities and the gaming experience
Brutalities enhance the gaming experience of Mortal Kombat 1, providing an alternative to Fatalities for a more spectacular and intense combat conclusion. Additionally, they introduce an extra layer of strategy, forcing players to decide whether to risk attempting a Brutality or focus on securing victory.
How to unlock Brutalities in MK1
By default, almost all characters in Mortal Kombat 1 have access to the same Brutality right from the start of the game, named “The Klassic,” where the player decapitates their opponent with an uppercut at the end of a match. However, each character also has a few other character-specific Brutalities to unlock in MK1. Each character has their own Character Mastery line, granting rewards as the character levels up in Invasions, Towers, and online matches. Although the rewards differ, the types of rewards remain the same for all playable characters at each level. At levels 3, 5, 7, 10, and 15, characters unlock new Brutalities. While characters can perform Fatalities they haven’t technically unlocked (with the right manual inputs), Brutalities cannot be executed until they are unlocked.
